Debbiedoo's Fall 2012 Magazine Copy Cat Challenge

When Debbie first announced her Fall 2012 Magazine Copy Cat Challenge, I immediately started to flip through my Fall magazines for some inspiration. I needed something that was super easy, as I have been so busy lately. My inspiration struck me in the September/October issue of Southern Lady magazine, on page 70.

I loved the simplicity of this setting; and realized that the dinner plate was eerily similar to my wedding china. I decided to see if I could come close!

To replicate the plaid runner on the table, I pulled my Burberry scarf from the closet;

but, instead of the fox plate, in the inspiration photo, I used a turkey plate that I previously purchased from Williams-Sonoma.

I layered the plates on a rattan charger from Cost Plus World Market. The dinner plate, cup and saucer are all "Wedding Band" by Mikasa. I already had the round votive holder, like the one in the inspiration photo; and I added the jar candle for fun.

And, now, I'm a copy cat, with no money spent!!!

~An Easy Transformation~

Have you ever had those little projects that you wanted to do; but for some reason, you just never got around to them? It's not that they were terribly difficult or anything...you just didn't do them. Well, the brass trim on my fireplace doors had to go! It was there when we moved in; and it has always bothered me. The other day, I shared with you the fireplace screen that my daughters had given me. I also mentioned that I had plans to rid the doors of the brass trim. Well, looking at it, glaring at me through my new screen, was just the incentive that I needed! It was so easy, that I'm kicking myself that I hadn't done it sooner!

Before...

I went into my paint stash and pulled out the Rustoleum High Heat paint and a paint brush. Thirty minutes later, the brass was history!!!

After...

Ahhh...much better!
Now, the focus is on the pretty travertine marble in the surround.

So, no need to replace those fireplace doors! Paint the trim!

It's an easy fix!

Best of all, there was no money spent!
(Now, if the stores around here would just get some real pumpkins, I could finish off the hearth! Lol!)

~My Latest Thrift Finds~

In my last post, I shared the wonderful birthday gifts that my family blessed me with. Well, the day before my birthday, my best friend treated me to a wonderful lunch. After lunch, I suggested that we go over to one of the local antique malls. It had been, at least, 5 or 6 years since I had stopped in this particular one.

While perusing the booths, the first item I found was this beautiful, large soup tureen, with underplate. I love the bountiful harvest pattern; and I'll enjoy using and displaying it for fall. The ticket price was $15.00; but when I got it to the register, it was an additional 20% off. The ladle was missing; but, I easily found a replacement online for about $7. So, overall, it was still a very good deal.

Next, I stumbled upon this De la Cuisine copper ice bucket. I did some research online, after I got it home; and apparently, it is very high quality.The lid and inside of the bucket are insulated; and it is in great condition. For now, I plan to polish it up, and use it as a planter on the kitchen counter, with some fall mums or dried hydrangeas. It will coordinate well with the copper pots on the pot rack. I think it will be pretty in some sort of vignette. It was only $9.99, with an additional 20% off.

Finally, this large, wood pizza peel caught my eye. I picked it up and looked at it; but I put it back. (I don't know why.) After I got home, it was still on my mind. I started looking around the kitchen for places to display it.
(What Tuscan kitchen would be complete, without a pizza peel?)
I had looked at the ones at Sur la Table. They were about $34.95... not bad, but I kept thinking I could do better. Even on Etsy, they start at $40, for this size. So, after breakfast with my hubby the next morning, I made a trek back to the booth, hoping that it was still there. It was! And for $18, it was mine!

So, these are my thrift finds for this week! I'm excited to 'play' with them, as I pull my fall decor together.

~Birthday Blessings~

Happy Friday, everyone!! I hope you have great plans for the weekend! I have had a fabulous day! Today was my birthday; and my sweet daughters came home from college to celebrate with me! And when I tell you that my family really knows me...I mean it! They blessed me with the most awesome gifts!

First, my dear sweet hubby took me to breakfast. Just when I thought that he had left for work for the day, he returned home with a lovely bouquet of flowers.

It had all of my favorites.

Hydrangeas...

Lilies...

And Snapdragons...

Then, he gave me a lovely card, with TWO Williams-Sonoma gift cards!!

(No need to ask where I'll be first thing tomorrow morning!!)

He also included two tickets for a concert that I really want to attend next week!!

Well, gosh, that would have been enough for me.

But, then, my girls arrived bearing gifts. Do they know me or what?!

(My love of fleur de lis accents is no secret around here.)

Isn't this tray pretty?? I love the antique postcards and notes in the background!

Then, they presented me with a gift bag containing these lovely picture frames...

These fleur de lis frames are just beautiful...such wonderful detail.

I guess I will have to put pictures of my sweet girls in them!

And just when I thought that they were done, they told me to close my eyes, and walked me to my next gift. Imagine my surprise when I saw this beauty!!!

Isn't this screen gorgeous?! I have plans to get rid of the brass trim on the fireplace doors; and this is just the perfect accent!!

My girls are just the best!

They even took me out to dinner!

When I think of my greatest blessing, it HAS to be my family!!

I love them dearly!!! It has been a great day!!

~Coffee Table Accents for Fall~

Happy Monday, Everyone! Hope you had a great weekend! It was so refreshing to come home from vacation, to cool temps and a little rain. It's actually starting to feel more like Fall.

Today, I am sharing my coffee table decor. It's nothing fancy. I just wanted to add a touch of fall. Since the mantel is done, I wanted to bring that color combo, here, as well. I've never really decorated with blues before; but I am really liking it!

I brought in a rust and paisley silk throw to add some warmth to the stone tabletop. I love using small throws for this purpose.

Then, I just filled an iron bowl with all sorts of fall accents.

I used peacock feather balls...

Glittered acorns for a little "rustic luxe"...

A few pinecones...

Some miniature pumpkins, in metallic blue and orange...

and some miniature accents around the perimeter.

I also like to keep my favorite magazines handy for inspiration.

I love this mix of colors!

I think the coffee table coordinates well with the fireplace.

~The Destin Beach House~

Last week, as you know, we took a little vacation to Destin, Florida, with plans to go on to Charleston. Well, we spent the first couple of nights in a beautiful hotel on the beach. However, what I did not mention, is that we had been so graciously invited to join our dear friends at this fabulous beach house for the week!!

This beautiful home was located in a gorgeous gated community, with every amenity available! The home features 6 bedrooms, all with ensuite baths, private beach access, a pool, and a rooftop party deck, with a hot tub! Well, there was no way we could leave here!! We were having too much fun!!! So, we will go to Charleston later...LOL!!!

The house was three stories of pure luxury! How much luxury?

Well, there was an elevator to take us and our luggage upstairs!!
